Mayor Kenney Bans City Employee Travel To North Carolina And Mississippi

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Wednesday night, Mayor Jim Kenney announced that he is banning city employee travel to North Carolina and Mississippi. The ban is effective immediately and is in response to both states passing legislation that Mayor Kenney said in a statement, "infringes the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals."

Kenney announced that all City Departments are being directed to prohibit all travel to North Carolina and Mississippi by city employees on official business.

No publicly-funded travel to North Carolina and Mississippi will be allowed, unless the travel was pre-approved by the Managing Director as essential to public health and safety.

Kenney announced that he will reconsider the ban if the two states choose to repeal the legislation that they passed.
