Maryland Players Snub Nittany Lions At Coin Toss

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It has been years since Penn State and Maryland have played against one another in football, but there was clearly no love lost between the two teams on Saturday. The two teams came together in Happy Valley and there were quite a few pregame activities.

The two teams got into a little pregame skirmish during warm ups. The dust up must not have sat too well with Maryland's captains.

Stefon Diggs, Sean Davis and P.J. Gallo all refused to shake the hands of the Penn State captains during the coin toss. Shaking hands is pretty customary at a coin toss, but it appeared the Terrapins had a message to send.

The gesture led to the referees sending a message of their own. The three Maryland players were penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Penn State's head coach James Franklin is a former Maryland offensive coordinator and was a presumed coach in the waiting. That connection and today's antics are clear signs that this rivalry will continue to produce some contentious moments.
