1 dead after serious crash shuts down Route 73 in Marlton, New Jersey
Route 73 is back open in Marlton, New Jersey, after a fatal crash closed the road for several hours Friday morning.
Evesham Township police say someone was killed in a "police encounter" at Route 73 and Greentree Road. There is no threat to the public.
Around 4:40 a.m. Friday, "a police encounter occurred in the vicinity of State Highway 73 and Greentree Road resulting in one individual sustaining fatal injuries," Chief Thomas Reinholt said in a news release.
An Evesham police officer also received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, Reinholt added.
Around 7 a.m., Chopper 3 was live over Route 73 near Lincoln Drive, where no traffic was getting by as police responded to a crash. A vehicle could be seen with heavy damage on the driver's side.
The state's attorney general's office is handling the investigation, and Evesham police say they can't comment on it.
As of around 12 p.m., one lane of Route 73 was still closed on the northbound side.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
