Philly March Offers Support For Sexual, Domestic Abuse Victims, Survivors

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Rainy weather didn't stop hundreds from marching throughout Philadelphia Thursday night to raise awareness for sexual and domestic violence, and offer support to victims.

The 6th annual "Take Back The Night" rally began at four different points in Philadelphia -- north, south, east and west.

After marching for about 15 minutes, participants converged at the First Unitarian Church in Center City.

"We make signs, we sell shirts," explains Robin Strough, one of the event's organizers. "Everybody gathers together here at the church with many resource tables inside, people could get help with sexual and domestic violence."

There was also a speak-out, where she says victims share their stories, some for the first time:

"A victim, when they speak out, that's their bridge to becoming a survivor."

She says victims need to feel protected, which is the main goal of the march.
