Maple Shade Residents Want Answers On Discolored Water

By Kim Glovas

MAPLE SHADE, NJ (CBS) -- Residents in Maple Shade, Burlington County want some answers about the cloudy water coming out of their faucets.

Township Manager Joe Andl says his office has been receiving complaints about discolored water all summer. He says engineers and water managers suggested flushing the hydrants to clear the residue.

"The town is currently undergoing a town-wide hydrant flushing, hopefully clear some of the lines, to bring new water into the system, and that way it will also help us identify if there are any other problems that are going on with the pipes with any iron residue or iron buildup that may be occurring."

Andl says it may be after Labor Day before the sediment in the system is cleared out.

He is hoping a majority of residents will be cleared, then officials will be able to tackle the remaining homes on a case by case basis.

Andl says some water samples have also been sent off to the Department of Environmental Protection for testing.
