Many Pa. Colleges, Including Penn State, Among America's Most Expensive

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The College Affordability and Transparency Center has released its annual list of the country's most expensive colleges and universities, and many Pa. colleges, unfortunately, are on it.

While Columbia University is America's most expensive four-year private institution, "state universities in Pennsylvania have the dubious honor of charging the highest tuition prices," CBS News reports. "Eight of the 20 most expensive state universities are located in Pennsylvania."

Coming in first on the list of the priciest state schools is the University of Pittsburgh, followed by Penn State at number two.

The College of New Jersey also made the list, ranking ninth most expensive.

According to CBS News, what matters most, though, is "net price," or the price after scholarships and grants are deducted. For example, Columbia may be the most expensive school, but it offers excellent financial aid to students who need it.

So, what colleges and universities have the highest net price?

Miami University of Ohio was the priciest, but Penn State again ranked second. Philadelphia's Temple University came in sixth.
