Pie Day Kicks Off MANNA's Annual "Pie In The Sky" Fundraiser

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With all of the upcoming holidays it's safe to say we're in the middle of pie season, and one Philadelphia non-profit is hoping you'll buy a pie from them as they raise money to feed area people with life threatening illnesses.

By declaration of Mayor Nutter, today (11/5/15)  is Pie Day in Philadelphia. It marks the final month of sales for MANNA's Pie in the Sky fundraiser.

Emily Gallagher with MANNA says if you make a $25 donation you'll get a pie and help provide seven meals to people who really need them.

"We serve people living with life-threatening illnesses, cancer, HIV, AIDS, renal disease, diabetes, heart disease," said Gallagher.

Gallagher says they have a pie for just about every taste bud out there.

"We have Aberdeen Apple which is a huge popular favorite one, then my personal favorite is our American Airlines Sky Pie, that is a cheesecake pie topped with walnuts, chocolate, caramel and we have sweet potato, pecan and pumpkin," said Gallagher.

MANNA wants to sell 8,000 pies by their Nov. 20 deadline.
