Man, Woman Killed In Violent Crash In Lawncrest

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two people are dead after a violent, rollover crash in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday along Roosevelt Boulevard near Adams and Whitaker Avenues.

Police say the Jeep was travelling southbound on the Boulevard when it spun out control, struck a light pole and then slammed into the base of cell phone generator before flipping over and ejecting the driver and a passenger from the vehicle.

Authorities say the victims, a 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were thrown nearly a hundred feet from the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash forced the closure of the outer southbound lanes of the Boulevard from Adams to Whitaker Avenues for several hours.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
