Man Who Threw Bottle At Ryan Howard Appears In Court

by Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Delaware man who threw a beer bottle at Ryan Howard appeared in court Tuesday.

21-year-old Sidney Smith did not enter a formal plea. Instead, the Wilmington man chose to take a special Summary Diversion Program.

In exchange for paying $200 dollars and attending a class in July, thereby tacitly admitting his guilt, Smith will have his citation for disorderly conduct expunged.

Smith was the target of a nearly week-long search after throwing a beer bottle at Ryan Howard at the end of a Phillies game on June 4th. He surrendered to police last Friday.

Smith had no comment after leaving court Tuesday.
