Man Who Left Work Custody 10 Years Ago Apprehended In Delaware

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Police say two work release offenders, including one dating back almost 10 years ago, have been taken into custody after failing to return to the Sussex County Community Correction Center.

The Delaware Department of Correction announced that 33-year-old Gerald Evans of Smyrna and 29-year-old Michelle Chalmers of Bridgeville are now in custody in Delaware.

Investigators say Evans was arrested by Virginia authorities last month after failing to return to the corrections center from an authorized job seeking pass in October 2005. He was extradited to Delaware on Wednesday.

In a separate case, police say Chalmers was apprehended during a motor vehicle stop by the Millsboro Police Department last month after she failed to return to the correction center from an authorized work pass in July.
