Man Walking Across Country With Goat For Charity Passes Through Philly
MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Don't be surprised if you spot a man with a goat walking along the road. The pair is made their way through Philadelphia on Wednesday as part of a cross-country journey to raise awareness and funds for an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya called Uzima Outreach.
Steve Wescott started his journey at Seattle's Space Needle in May of 2012 as a way to spread the word about the orphanage.
"My idea was I'll just walk from city to city and just tell the story and let people get involved if they wanted to," Wescott said. "I've heard tragic stories, I've heard beautiful stories. I've been a part of a lot of amazing things as I've walked across America."
Sadly, his first goat died after someone fed him something poisonous. Wescott took a break from the journey until he found his current goat, Miles.
"He's a princess man. He's just a softy. He's great with people. But he's a diva," Wescott said. "He only wants Avian water and he wants to take Ubers everywhere."
He and his goat mostly stay with host families in each town.
So far, Wescott has received more than $100,000 in donations.
Steve and Miles' journey is set to end October 1 in Times Square.
"I'm just ready to not be the goat guy," Wescott said. "That's pretty much the worst legacy you can have. You know what I'm saying?"
