PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police sources say a person is now in custody after a man was stabbed to death overnight in Rittenhouse Square.

It happened just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday outside of a luxury high-rise hotel in the 1800 block of Rittenhouse Square in Center City.

Police say a 24-year-old man was out for a night on the town with a friend when he got into an argument with a suspect who slashed the victim in the chest and then ran away.

The victim was rushed to Hahnemann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police sources say the person in custody is a homeless veteran who didn't know the victim.

Investigators collected the victim's shoes, a necklace and a coat they say a good Samaritan used to help the victim.

Authorities were questioning several witnesses and say an image of the suspect was captured on surveillance video.

The victim's identity was not immediately released.

Police have not yet released a motive either.
