Man Sitting On NJ Tracks Survives Being Hit By Train

WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. (AP) — A man who was sitting on the railroad tracks in southern New Jersey escaped serious injury when he was struck by a freight train.

Authorities say 25-year-old Andrew Davoli of Washington Township was struck around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in West Deptford Township. But the impact knocked him into the area between the rails, and the train rolled over him without hitting him again.

After the train came to a halt a short distance away, the conductor walked back and saw Davoli crawl out from under one of the cars. He suffered lacerations on the right side of his head and complained of back and leg pain.

Davoli told police he did not know he had ended up on the tracks, but acknowledged he had been drinking.
