Man Shot Dead While Walking His Dog In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Authorities say a man was shot and killed while walking his dog in West Philadelphia.

Police were called to the area of Horton and Vine Streets just before 7 p.m. Monday night for a reported shooting in the Carroll Park section of the city.

Officers arrived on scene where they found a man in his mid-20s with a gunshot wound to his head.

"The victim was apparently walking a dog when he got shot," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "When the neighbors saw him laying on the sidewalk he still was holding the leash in his hands, and the dog was attached."

Small says the victim was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police have not identified the victim.

No arrests have been made.
