Man Shot Outside Of Willow Grove Park Mall, Police Say

WILLOW GROVE, Pa. (CBS) -- Police are investigating a shooting outside the Willow Grove Park Mall in Montgomery County. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear, but police say the man who was shot is expected to be OK.

Ten minutes before closing, gunfire in the parking lot of the Willow Grove Park Mall Sunday evening left one man injured.

Abington police responded to the shooting just before 6 p.m. near entrances to department stores Nordstrom Rack and Primark.

The victim was rushed to Abington-Jefferson Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. No else was hurt.

"I just had gotten here and I saw all these cops outside and I was like oh snap," a mallgoer said.

People Eyewitness News spoke to leaving the mall said gun violence is very unusual for Willow Grove.

"Yeah it's pretty strange, I never really heard nothing about nothing really happening around here. But you never know, violence can happen anywhere," one shopper said.

"It's not common. I'd guess they probably weren't from this part of the city or whatever, just probably someone just random shopping. So much stuff is happening so you just don't know what's going on anywhere," Willow Grove resident Tina Clark said.

Abington police say the community is safe. Though officers have not yet made an arrest, they do believe the shooter has left the area.

A spokesperson for the mall addressed the shooting in a statement sent to Eyewitness News: "The safety and security of our shoppers is our top priority and, at this time, we are fully cooperating with the police investigation. While we aren't at liberty to share any details, we are wishing for a speedy recovery of anyone who may have been harmed and are thankful to the Abington PD for their quick response."
