Man Sentenced In Violent Center City Sex Assault

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The man charged in a vicious sexual assault in Center City nearly two years ago will be going to prison for a very long time.

30-year-old Brandon Menley has been sentenced to 30-to-60 years behind bars.

Authorities say Menley struck a woman with a hammer multiple times, strangled, then raped her in Center City in October 2014. He then allegedly stole hundreds of dollars from the victim.

Part of the assault was caught on surveillance video.

Investigators say Menley rented a storage locker shortly after the attack. It was there police recovered a hammer, the victim's business card, and receipts for items purchased with the victim's money.

Menley has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Rape and other offenses. Following his sentence, Menley faces 15 years of probation.
