Accident At Del. 'Punkin Chunkin' Contest Injures 2

BRIDGEVILLE, DE (CBS) -- Police in Delaware are investigating an explosion at a "Punkin Chunkin" contest in Bridgeville, Delaware that sent two people to the hospital.

Investigators say the explosion Sunday involved an apparatus being used in the contest. It happened around 2:45 p.m. at the event held on Apple Tree Road.

Delaware State Troopers say a man was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries and is expected to be okay. A woman was also hurt after a piece of a pumpkin hit her in the head. She remains in the hospital.

"Punkin Chunkin" is a contest where teams compete to see who can chuck pumpkins the greatest distance across a field using a catapult or other mechanical device.
