Man Found Shot In Newark Apartment Building Dies From Wounds

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a man found shot inside a Newark apartment building has died from his wounds.

Essex County prosecutors say 35-year-old city resident Alim Abdul-Ghafer was found shortly after 8:30 p.m. Friday by officers responding to reports of shots fired in the 200 block of Washington Street.

Abdul-Ghafer was unresponsive when police found him in the building's hallway. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Further details on the shooting were not disclosed, including what type of weapon was used or how many shooters may have been involved.

A motive remains under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.

No arrests have been made.
