Man Found Shot And Killed In Merchantville

MERCHANTVILLE, N.J. (CBS) -- A deadly shooting has stunned a small community in Camden County, New Jersey.

It happened around 9 p.m. Monday in the unit block of Russell Avenue in Merchantville.

Police say responding officers found a man who had been shot. They rushed him to Kennedy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting occurred in a small, typically quiet borough where crime is not common.

Merchantville Mayor Ted Brennan took to Facebook to address the shooting. In a statement, he said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and that the police department was working with multiple law enforcement agencies to help track down the suspect(s).

Mayor Brennan called the shooting a reminder that no area is immune to crime.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Merchantville police or the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
