Man Ends Up Shot In Craigslist Deal Gone Bad

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It was a Craigslist deal for a phone that turned into an attempted armed robbery in the Overbrook section of the city.

A man was shot and police are looking for the gunman.

The victim, a 22-year-old Delaware County man, arranged to buy an iPhone someone was selling on Craigslist. The transaction was set to happen at a pharmacy parking lot at 63rd and Lebanon at 11 last night.

The buyer, with his girlfriend, looks at he phone and as he pulls out cash, police say the other guy pulls out a gun.

Police say the victim was shot above the knee during a struggle. Authorities say the gunman ran off.

It's not clear if he left with the victim's money.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Lieutenant John Walker says this is a reminder for people to make arrangements carefully.

"As we always try to explain to people. Whenever you use these type of things just try to do them at the right time and right place."

Walker says such Craigslist transactions can be made in front of many police stations throughout the area.
