Man Dies After SUV Slams Into Tree In Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- Police say a man is dead after he lost control of his SUV and crashed into a tree in Wilmington, Delaware.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. Saturday along southbound I-95 near Marsh Road.

Police say the 36-year-old driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee was passing the vehicle in front of his when he lost control of his SUV, went off the roadway and into a grass embankment, and then struck a large tree. The SUV became engulfed in flames, trapping the driver inside.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not immediately release the victim's identity.

Investigators believe the wet road conditions were a factor in the crash.

The southbound lanes of I-95 were closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
