BRICK, N.J. (AP) — A man was killed and a woman was injured when a fire severely damaged their southern New Jersey home.

It's not yet known what sparked the blaze on Brower Drive in Brick, which was reported around 12:50 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say flames were visible from all sides of the home when firefighters arrived, but the blaze was soon extinguished. Meanwhile, neighbors tried to assist the 74-year-old male victim, who was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived on scene.

The cause of the man's death has not been determined. His name has not been released.

The woman was being treated for undisclosed injuries that are not considered life-threatening. But further details on her condition have not been disclosed.

No other injuries were reported in the blaze.
