Teen Shot During Attempted Robbery At Torresdale Playground

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating a shooting at a playground in Northeast Philadelphia that left one man critically injured.

It happened around 8 p.m. Sunday at a playground along the 9500 block of Frankford Avenue in the city's Torresdale section.

Officers responding to a call for a shooting arrived to find an 18-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Witnesses tell police the victim was at the playground with several of his friends when a man approached, announced a robbery and then pulled a gun. A struggle ensued and the victim was shot once in the chest.

He was taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital in critical condition.

The shooter fled on foot. It was unclear how much, if any, money was stolen.
