Man Critically Injured In NE Philadelphia Hit And Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police search for a driver who hit a man in a bank parking lot and fled in Northeast Philadelphia.

The victim is fighting for his life this morning.

There's a pool of blood in the parking lot of a Wells Fargo Bank at Bustleton and Bleigh Avenues in the Rhawnhurst section of the city.

Around 11 last night police say they found a 49-year-old man on the ground, his head severely injured.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says those who were here at the time were a huge help.

"Witnesses described a white vehicle leaving the scene on Bustleton Avenue and also gave a Pennsylvania tag number."

And so, police were able to find the car, which had a damaged front windshield, a mile away on Rutland Street.

But there was no driver to be found.

The victim was taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital, critically hurt.

Investigators are hoping bank surveillance cameras give them a clear picture of what exactly happened and who the hit and run driver is.
