PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Frankford man is under arrest in connection with the fatal hit and run accident in the Northeast early Tuesday morning.

Thirty-five-year-old John Cook of Tackawanna Street surrendered to police Tuesday at police headquarters. He's charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and related crimes.

Philadelphia Police say Cook was driving the Lexus which struck Aleja Molina while he was standing under a SEPTA bus shelter at Cottman and Bustleton Avenues.

Police say the car was speeding when it hit Molina around 12:30 a.m Tuesday.

Molina was thrown 120 feet by the impact and died a short time later.

Witnesses told police Cook got out of his vehicle, looked at Molina on the ground and then fled on foot.
