Man Arrested For Allegedly Trying To Lure 3 Students Outside Delco School

RADNOR, Pa. (CBS) – Police have arrested a man accused of trying to lure three students outside of a Delaware County elementary school.

Police say the suspect approached the children near Wayne Elementary School twice.

Radnor police say the "disturbing" incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, after school had dismissed for the day.

The man is accused of approaching the three children, ages 10, 9 and eight, attempting to lure them, then returning a second time in what police say may have been a second attempt.

Police say the suspect, 26-year-old Daniel Lee, does not live far from the school.

According to an arrest warrant providing details of the allegations, "the male engaged the three children in conversation and asked them where they went to school and who their teachers were. The male proceeded to ask the children if they had ever been in the woods. He then stated he was going deep into the woods where an abandoned house was located."

Radnor Township detective T.J. Schreiber described the conversation that Lee allegedly had with the children saying "and then he started talking about going into the woods, and 'I'm going to go into a cabin in the woods, and my friend is there, and it really scares me.'"

Police are crediting the children, their parents, neighbors and officers with taking quick action.

Lee was arrested after he returned a second time.

He was arraigned Thursday morning and held on $100,000 bail. He was also ordered by a district justice to undergo a psychiatric exam.

Radnor Police Lieutenant Andy Block says they do not take this lightly:

"The courts will make the decision ultimately on what his disposition will be with respect to the criminal charges."

At the suspect's home, his mother told reporters her son did not intend any harm.

"He's doing good, he's a good kid," she said.

Police ask anyone familiar with the suspect or know of any similar incidents involving the suspect to contact them.

KYW's Jim Melwert contributed to this report.
