Man Allegedly Attempts To Abduct 4-Year-Old In Levittown, Police Investigate

LEVITTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Police are investigating after a report of an attempted child abduction in a local neighborhood.

The story unfolded near Edgely Road in Levittown where police say a man attempted to abduct a four-year-old child.

Bristol Township Police canvased the area on Wednesday night, looking for a suspicious vehicle and the driver. A father spoke out on Thursday out of fear that someone may have tried to snatch his son.

He tried to instill the lessons of stranger danger in his kids early and that's what Stephen Johnston says saved his son Landon from what he believes was an attempted abduction. "That person sees that there's a way in, that you're not watching, and then that's all they need. The fact that he just went a little aggressive with it is pretty alarming.'

Johnston says that around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, he took Landon and his one-year-old brother for a stroll around their home in the Goldenridge neighborhood.

"I never saw the car before, never saw the man before," said Johnston. That night, he saw a red pickup truck pass by twice and when Landon fell a few feet behind to pick up sticks, Johnston says the man immediately made a u-turn and came back around.

"I noticed he yelled something to [Landon]," Johnston explained, something allegedly about a puppy, but when Johnston ran toward them with his toddler in tow...

"He sped off. There's a stop sign at the end of the street, didn't even stop. I think the intent was there to try to do something."

It's alarming other neighbors, many with small children as well.

Neighbors are saying they are happy their children are safe and that they'll be holding them a little tighter.

Police say they are looking for an older model, red Ford pickup truck with peeling paint and a white stripe along the doors. They describe the driver as a white man, with dark hair in his early-to-mid 40's.
