Malcolm Jenkins: 'Culture Is What Wins Us Games'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- "Culture wins football. Culture will beat scheme every day." That was Eagles head coach Chip Kelly mic'd up before his team's divisional matchup against the Giants.

Safety Malcolm Jenkins, who spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints, talked about the Eagles' culture on his weekly appearance on the 94WIP Afternoon Show.

"Honestly, if you look at our roster, we don't have the most talented roster out there," Jenkins admitted on Tuesday to Anthony Gargano and Rob Ellis on 94WIP. "There's other teams that have more talent than we do, but we know how to maximize our potential. We know how to---we have a great locker room and he's [Kelly] all about the comradery in the locker room, make sure that molds well and about the culture, and making sure the culture goes above any one person. And I think that's what wins us games."

Eagles cornerback Cary Williams criticized Kelly's strict practice regimen early in the season, but Kelly adapted and made changes, something he is often commended for by his players.

"He [Kelly] went and looked at the numbers and saw how it affected certain players and I think he had a plan to begin with, that we were gonna try to push that limit of training hard and making gains even in the season," Jenkins said. "And then once we got to the bye week we would rest up and start to tailor back, because it is a long season.

Our threshold is so much higher because we went hard in that first six week."

Jenkins, Kelly, and the Eagles, 5-1, head to Arizona to face the Cardinals, also 5-1, on Sunday afternoon.
