Major Temperature Swings In The Forecast This Week

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Huge temperature swings in the forecast as we close out October and begin November. The new month will come in with a howling wind and daytime highs nearly fifteen degrees below normal. And the big chill will feel even harsher when compared with days like today, with temperatures in the mid-70's and summerlike sunshine.

It's actually a two-step cooling process - the first front will move through tomorrow, touching off an isolated shower in the afternoon and pulling down temperatures to where they should be for late October - we'll top out in the low 60's on Thursday.

Halloween Friday doesn't look too bad, not as pleasant as today, certainly, but highs in the upper 50's with Trick-or-Treat temperatures in the low 50's.

But over the weekend, a blast of cold and a potential coastal system will make it feel as though winter has arrived ahead of schedule. We'll deal with a whipping wind on Saturday and a punch of cold air - highs only in the upper 40's, but the wind gusting to 30mph may make it feel like no better than the thirties all day. We'll also have the chance for a few showers - looks warm enough at the surface that anything falling from the sky should stay in liquid form in the city, but we can't rule out a few Saturday snow showers in the mountains.

Sunday will still be cold and windy with highs only in the 40's, but at least the sun returns. Temperatures will climb back to normal early next week ahead of another cold front.
