Lower Moreland Teacher Sentenced To Prison For Sex With Teen Student

By Brad Segall

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A former math teacher from Lower Moreland High School will spend some time behind bars after pleading guilty to having sex with a 17-year-old student she was tutoring nearly two years ago.

Judge Garrett Page told Erica Ginnetti he has hope for her and no doubt that she will continue to turn her life around.  But he told her that one bad day because of sexual hunger resulted in harm to two families.

Today, Page sentenced the 35-year-old mother to 3-23 months -- the first 30 days in jail and the next 60 on house arrest.

There's also three years' probation.

Prosecutor Sophia Polites says this case cried out for jail time because of the abuse of power and betrayal of trust involved.

"She was supposed to be a role model to this boy," Polites told KYW Newsradio today.  "She was supposed to be someone that provided him with advice, told him the right thing to do."

Ginnetti pleaded guilty to institutional sexual assault and sending sexually explicit pictures.  She called it a "life changing experience" that cost her a career and almost her family.  She apologized, and said she has deep regret and should have exercised better judgment.
