'Love Your Park' Week Returns, Promoting The Benefits Of Philadelphia Nature

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This week, a series of events will be happening around Philadelphia, with the kick of Love Your Park week-- the spring edition.

Kathryn Ott Lovell is Commissioner for Philadelphia's Park & Recreation, and says this is a time for communities to come together and share green space.

"Parks can be incredible economic and community development tools in neighborhoods. Parks can change neighborhoods, they change individual lives, but they can also change our communities in really positive ways," Lovell said.

At the kickoff event in Torresdale's Pleasant Hill Park, Lovell says it brings families outside.

"It's really just a way for us to build awareness about the importance of parks, and to engage people in the stewardship and parks city wide," she said.

The celebration goes on through the week, with over 80 different events, including organized clean-ups, picnics and exercise events.
