Long-Time Concert Promoter: 'Philadelphia Was Number 1 City For David Bowie In North America'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A long-time Philadelphia concert promoter says the loss of David Bowie will be felt by legions of fans from this region.
Concert promoter Larry Magid says David Bowie loved Philadelphia and Philadelphia loved him back.
"Philadelphia was the No. 1 city for David Bowie in North America. He broke here in Philly. We had worked together, well, at least 35 years and it was always great to see him. He was a nice person, very quiet, funny."
Magid says Bowie was equally comfortable playing packed stadiums or more intimate shows at the Electric Factory.
"Whatever new music that he had, he would come to Philadelphia early and the reception that he got here was unparalleled in North America."
He says one of Bowie's fan clubs was based in Philadelphia and he enjoyed a large and loyal following in this region.
Additionally, Magid says there were plans already in the works to recognize Bowie's achievements.
"I know that with the release of his new album, there were a lot of things going on. There was a tribute to him scheduled for Carnegie Hall which I'm sure still will go on."
