Local Volunteers Head Down To Help Victims Of Hurricane Matthew
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Red Cross volunteers from the Delaware Valley are making their way down south to help people being affected by Hurricane Matthew. For years Rob and Denise VanNess of East Strausburg have volunteered with the Red Cross.
On Thursday afternoon, they left Philadelphia in a Red Cross Emergency Response vehicle on a mission to help those feeling the impact of Hurricane Matthew.
"What we'll be doing is feeding people. Feeding people that need it," Rob said.
The VanNess' who just returned to the area from helping victims of the San Bernardino wildfires say it's their calling to help those in need.
"Columbia, South Carolina is where we're first being assigned to. We do both distribution and feeding," Denise said. "At this time we'll do feeding at the shelters."
The Red Cross also wants to remind locals they can help hurricane victims by donating blood, which will be sent to people in the affected areas.
