Local Universities Work Together To Increase Enrollment

CHEYNEY, Pa. (CBS) - Two local universities are coming together to help grow enrollment at both schools.

Students who complete their associates degree at Delaware County Community College now have guaranteed acceptance to Cheyney University.

Delaware County Community College president Jerry Parker says the guaranteed admission program helps ease the transition from one higher learning institution to another:

"It's something we have with a number of other institutions, mainly West Chester and Temple, where a lot of our students go and we didn't have that with Cheney, so it put them at a disadvantage.

He says it makes the overall process easier:

"It takes some of the guesswork out of course transfer."

Parker says in an age where college enrollment is declining because of fiscal concerns this kind of program is useful in attracting more students:

"It's good for us it's a win win and it's good for Cheyney."

Parker adds that many of their graduates have flourished when they go on to four-year programs.
