Local Tap Company Promises Unique Holiday Show
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Bringing tap back, one "sole" at a time is the goal of a unique tap company based in the Delaware Valley.
The Footwerx tappers are putting the finishing touches on their holiday show. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Darrell Williams, the company has become a pioneer in tap theater in the tri-state area.
"We tell stories with our tap," Williams says. "We come out and actually have story line or three story lines that go on at the same time as we tap."
Since it began in 2007, Footwerx has grown from 13 to 50 members and dancer D'Andria Williams says their shows promise high-energy entertainment.
"You have different styles," she says. "You have Broadway, jazz tap, but we are more like hoofers, so it's a lot of percussion, it's a lot of heels. It digs down. It digs deep."
Footwerx's Holiday Tap Dance Showcase is on December 6 at the Arts Bank Center in Philadelphia.
