Local Student Named One Of The Top ROTC Cadets In Nation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A local woman has been named one of the top ROTC cadets in the nation.

She's number four out of more than five thousand seniors on this year's order of merit list and 21-year old Samantha DeCapua of Barnegat is quite proud her accomplishments at Widener University have been recognized. She graduates in June with degrees in criminal justice and sociology with a minor in women's studies and hopes to fly army helicopters.

"The adventure aspect of being able to fly and having that freedom and then it's a competitive branch it's challenging and I always look for something to challenge myself with and I feel like that aviation branch can fulfill that aspect of me."

She says the ROTC program gave her the military training she wanted along with the college campus experience she enjoyed.
