Local Singer Looks To Protect Our National Parks Through Song

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia area got its first "live" listen Tuesday night from a local singer-songwriter whose latest piece of work is designed to protect our national parks for future generations.
Earth Day provided the backdrop as Doreen Taylor unveiled "Colors of the USA" -- what she calls a new kind of anthem designed to raise awareness and support for America and its national parks.
She was tapped by the National Parks Conservation Association to write and record the song to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. Taylor talks about her inspiration for the song…
"I really wanted to write a song that would encapsulate all my childhood experiences of my family going across country and seeing Yellowstone, seeing the Grand Tetons, learning as a child about all these magical places that we have right here in our own backyard," Taylor said of her inspiration for the song.
One day she hopes it will be a staple at July 4th barbecues and fireworks celebrations.
The single can be downloaded with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the parks.
