Local Organization Reunites Dogs With Deployed Veterans
GLENSIDE, Pa. (CBS) - A big fundraiser was held Saturday in Glenside, Montgomery County with the goal of helping veterans in need.
The No Dog Gets Left Behind organization is expanding its reach, as volunteers have been working to reunite military members with dogs they bonded with while deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The organization is working to bring dogs over to help veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
"It helps the soldiers deal with anxiety and the stresses of being home after being in the warzone," the organization's founder, Trish Gohl, explains. "The dogs are service dogs, they hwelp them when they're out and their high levels of stress come up."
The initiative is called "Save a Dog Save a Veteran" and it costs $13,000 to connect a dog with a veteran.
