Local Museum Exhibit Pays Tribute To One Of America's Most Iconic Highways

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Bucks County museum is playing host to a new exhibit through late summer that pays tribute to one of America's most iconic highways.
As the song says, it winds from Chicago to L.A. and it covers more than two thousand miles. Route 66 is a paved reminder of our country's move west. It's a 20th century story that celebrates classic cars, trendy architecture and nostalgia from the baby boomer generation.
The exhibit is on display at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown until late August.
Cory Amsler, VP of Collections, says "There are a number of photographs, some artifacts, some interactive and multimedia devices. Those are telling the story of Route 66, kind of a travelogue."
There are also a number of classic cars, including a Mercedes Limo owned by Elvis Presley and a 65 Mustang that the exhibit's developer used to travel the entire length of the highway.
The Mercer is the first venue to host the traveling exhibition.
