Local Mother Of Man Killed In 9/11 Attack Opposes Plan To Close Guantanamo Bay Prison
YARDLEY, P.A., (CBS) -- On Tuesday, President Barack Obama laid out his plan to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. "For many years, it's been clear that the facility at Guantanamo Bay does not advance our national security," Obama said.
The president announced a plan to move prisoners to other countries, and some to a location not yet named in the United States.
Obama's plan is not sitting well with Yardley resident Judy Reiss. She lost her 23-year-old son Josh on September 11, 2001. Josh Reiss worked in the north tower of the World Trade Center.
The men behind bars in Guantanamo Bay are accused of plotting the attack on 9/11.
"The government has forgotten about the families of the victims. We want justice. We want fair justice," Reiss said.
Reiss told Eyewitness News she believes that moving prisoners to the United States will bring followers to the area near the prison and cause security concerns. Her only hope is that members of Congress block the plan from the White House. She wants to keep the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, arguing that transferring them to another facility will only delay the process even more.
"Another fifteen or twenty years before they try these people. That may be past my life expectancy and I want justice for my son. That is what I want. I want these people brought to justice," Reiss said.
