PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Tennis season is in full swing. This year marks one local man's 45th year of coaching the game.

For the last 12 years, Reggie Day has coached boys and girls tennis coach at Academy Park High School in Delaware County.

"The teams usually won maybe two or three matches a year." says Day. "That doesn't quite sit well with me, so I started to work with the program and we got to the point where we have one of, if not, the top team in the Del Val league."

Day, a former Cabrini College head coach for 17 years, says he loves introducing the game to youngsters who never really thought about playing tennis.

"When you're here at the high school level, you wind up doing a whole lot more teaching than you do coaching."

Day, who has coached at a number of programs, adds it's always great to see a young players progress.

"My proudest moment is when I had kids come out and actually win a match," he says, "and realize they had done something that they hadn't done before."

Under Day's tenure, the Academy Park boys and girls tennis teams have both won two conference titles.
