Local Legislator Trying To Once Again Make NJ Major Manufacturing Region

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) - A South Jersey legislature wants to make the region a more attractive place for manufacturers to set up shop, and has proposed a series of measures to make that happen.
Cumberland County Republican Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi has proposed five bills that he says will help the region become a player in the manufacturing industry again.
It wasn't that long ago that the Bridgeton area, for example, was known for making glass, until those jobs moved to Asia.
"A lot of the Asian companies now, because their costs are going up and, actually, they have high energy costs, are starting to not be as competitive as they used to be," Fiocchi says.
One bill would cut sales taxes for energy and utility services for firms that come in from overseas. Another would prohibit new regulations on a firm for their first 10 years of operation.
Fiocchi says Democrats, who control the legislature could support a couple of the ideas he's proposed.
