Local Ice Cream Parlors Named Among Best In Country

By Jasmine Payoute

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – While many people may be thinking about hitting the road this summer, a new contest is reminding us that there's no place like home.

The contest done by USA Today listed some local favorites such as; Franklin Fountain in Philadelphia, Woodside Farm Creamery in Hockessin, DE and Springer's Homemade Ice Cream in Stone Harbor, NJ as finalists in an "Ice Cream Showdown."

The contest compiled ice cream experts from all across the country to determine which one was truly the best when it comes to this dairy delight.

Franklin Fountain opened in 2004, but upon arrival makes you feel like you've stepped back in time to the early 1900's. Their ice cream is made onsite and if you're in to celebrities, they've also made dessert for Pontifex, himself.

For those in Delaware and New Jersey, be sure to stop at Springer's in Stone Harbor and Woodside Farm Creamery in Hockessin before the summers out. These home must-haves have more than 50 flavors to choose from and none of them will disappoint.

To cast your vote In USA Today's competition, visit USA Today. You have until noon on Monday, May 23.
