Local Homeless Shelters Expect A Busy Night Due To Freezing Temperatures

By David Spunt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Snow continued to fall in Montgomery County on Tuesday, as county officials issued a Code Blue warning to the public. The warning is issued anytime the temperature or wind chill drops to 20 degrees or below.

"The best thing to do is stay inside," said Barbara O'Malley, with Montgomery County.

The Salvation Army is one of several homeless shelters in the area, and the staff inside is expecting a busy night.

"To live in conditions like this, it makes it even more difficult," said Salvation Army Captain Curtis Flora.

Flora says his building is already packed with families, but his staff will set up cots for others who may stop by later in the evening.

"My heart does go out to anyone that is dealing with this type of situation," Flora said.

Montgomery County officials tell Eyewitness News that last Code Blue warning lasted from December 30 through January 2.
