Local High School Students Prepare To Get In The Booth

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Voter registration effort geared to high school students took place throughout the city on Tuesday.

At Benjamin Franklin High School in the Spring Garden section of Philadelphia, a voting booth was set up where students could cast a mock vote for the presidential election.

Some students didn't see the importance in voting.

"I don't think it's really important like that," one student said. "If we vote or not, no matter what, somebody is going to be president."

For others, voting is viewed as a responsibility.

"Your vote matters, especially as a young kid and a teenager, your voice does matter, don't let any one tell you otherwise," another eager young voter said.

The City Commissioners' office partnered with the School District of Philadelphia and Council Members for the High School Voter Registration Initiative.
