Local High School Football Teams Look To End Seasons With Championship Wins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It all comes down to this.

St. Joe's Prep and Archbishop Wood have won five state championships in the last five years between them. Then, there's Imhotep Charter, a school that is barely a decade old, looking to win back to back state crowns.

The three coaches that got them this far, spoke with Eyewitness News.

Imhotep Charter is one win away from winning their second consecutive 4A State Championship. The 13-0 Panthers have been on a tear this season under coach Mark Schmidt.

"It's always the cherry on the sundae kind of thing. It's the last game of the year," Schmidt said. "It's always the goal of every high school team to make it to that point."

Archbishop Wood held a pep rally on Wednesday afternoon for their team, playing in the 5A Championship. They are win win away from their fourth state crown in six seasons.

"We're excited about the opportunity," said coach Steve Devlin. "The seniors are excited to finish their high school career playing for a state championship."

St. Joe's Prep, the best in the east, will take on Pittsburgh Central Catholic, the best in the west, in the 6A Championship. The two teams met for the state title in 2013. Prep won 35-10.

"Right now, I think everybody's really focused on trying to do everything they can to prepare themselves to play the best possible game," said coach Gabe Infante. "Obviously, anytime you have a chance to play in a game of this magnitude, the excitement's going to be palpable."
