Local Delaware County School District Hosts Hackathon

DELAWARE COUNTY (CBS) -- The International Back-To-School Hackathon is underway this weekend in Darby, Delaware County.

Fifteen students are locked in at the William Penn School District with the goal of learning how to code a website, custom application, or mobile app.

School board president Jennifer Hoff says the event aims at a variety of student interests.

"Hopefully, the website or application they create, sort of addresses or solves a problem, whether it be in the community or in the world. Whatever interests them," she said.

The hackathon started Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday afternoon.

It's sponsored by 'We Connect the Dots,' a non-profit designed to encourage innovation and technology in rising generations.

This is an international event, and students will be linked with others in Australia, Long Island, New York, Kalamazoo, Michigan and Darby, Pennsylvania.
