Local Bank Dealing With Flurry of ATM Frauds

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An investigation is underway into the fraudulent withdrawal of funds from some Beneficial Bank customers' accounts.

A spokesman for the financial institution says the fraud was not widespread.  Those affected have been contacted, and account passwords have been changed.

The spokesman adds that customers will not be held responsible for the missing funds.

One customer told KYW Newsradio he received a call from Beneficial's transaction department over the weekend informing him of three out-of-network ATM withdraws totaling more than $800.

The bank is working with law enforcement to find out who is responsible for the fraud.
