Lindenwold's White Horse Bridge Under Emergency Repairs For A While Longer

LINDENWOLD, N.J. (CBS) --- A bridge over the PATCO rail tracks in Lindenwold has been closed for four weeks now, and it'll stay that way for a while longer.

When a pair of girders under the 50-year-old span on White Horse Road were found to be in bad shape last month, Camden County shut the bridge down out of an abundance of caution.

Crews are now working on a temporary fix, according to county Freeholder Ian Leonard.

"It will be somewhere from 6 to 8 weeks or maybe a little longer in order to get it reopened to cars, small trucks, and emergency vehicles," Leonard said. "It is causing people an inconvenience, and we're working as quickly and as fast as we can to get that reopened."

Early predictions had the bridge closed for a year or more, but engineers are designing a new span that will likely close the road again.

Leonard didn't say how long the bridge will be closed. 24,000 cars a day have had to find another way around the problem, but PATCO service has not been disrupted.
