Video shows fire rip through apartment building in Lindenwold, New Jersey
A fire ripped through an apartment building in Lindenwold, New Jersey, on Tuesday, leaving several people displaced.
Chopper 3 was over the scene at the Laurel Hill Apartments on Chews Landing Road near Laurel Road. Heavy smoke and some flames could be seen coming from the roof of the building.
Camden County officials said crews were called out to the building just before 11 a.m. When they arrived, they found the first and second floors engulfed in flames.
"When I came out the house, that bottom apartment to the right was just engulfed in flames," neighbor Krissy Sweets said. "The police were here first, so the police were actually able to get everybody out."
Late Tuesday morning, the Lindenwold Fire Department shared an update about the blaze on Facebook, saying this was a two-alarm fire.
The fire appeared to be brought under control shortly after 12 p.m. Camden County officials said eight people were displaced, and no injuries were reported. A resident's cat was also rescued from the burning building.
However, the building appears to be a total loss, firefighters said.
"One of the residents that was affected was a past fire commissioner for Lindenwold Fire Department, so we were trying to save all of his stuff," Lindenwold Fire Department Chief Phil Beeler said. "He's got a lot of older helmets. He was a firefighter and our assistant chief for a long time, so we tried to do the best we could to get his stuff out."
Fire companies from Gloucester Township, Pine Hill and Voorhees also responded, according to the International Association of Fire Fighters union branch in the county.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
